FARM at the BARN! Center for Land-based Learning announces BIG plans!

12 SEPT 2016: The Center for Land-Based Learning announced their fifth urban farm at a press conference the day following their successful "Dinner at the BARN" fundraising dinner.  The new farm, to be situated at the Bridge District's BARN, will "increase access to fresh local produce, promote community sustainability, encourage volunteerism and stimulate educational opportunities." 26 AUG 2016: The West Sacramento Farmers Market is coming to the BARN in 2017!  "To celebrate next year’s move, a special West Sacramento farmers market will be held from 5 to 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 8 at The Barn. DRAKE'S Brewing Company coming to the BARN

22 JUL 2016: Great article from Sactown (the only journalistic enterprise in our region that cares to check facts anymore) by Hillary Louise Johnson. "Drake's Brewing Company, owner of popular restaurants in Oakland and San Leandro, has been selected to operate a restaurant and bar at the Barn." Owner John Martin says half the beers on tap will be Drake's offerings, and half will be sourced from local brewers. "They're our friends, so we want to serve their stuff."

29 JUN 2016 : In her Sacramento Bee editorial, former Sacramento Mayor Heather Fargo describes a moment in time (2003) in which Sacramento and West Sacramento residents came together to imagine the future of Riverfront redevelopment in the downtown core. Since then, West Sacramento has taken big steps toward realizing the vision of a "city on the river," while Sacramento seems to be stuck in idle. International Design Magazine TOPOS invites Barn designer Jerry van Eyck to write about identity and urban places

22 SEP 2015 : Barn designer, Jerry van Eyck, writes in his contributed esay to TOPOS (Munich, Germany) issue 92 "Identity is not imitation," that there is a responsibility for designers to identify, clarify and interpret what is specific to the local identities of the places in which they work, but to also connect these identity threads to broader cultural discourse.  He argues for protecting the singularity of cities and against the prevailing copy/paste and rubber stamp city-making practices that focus on stylization and not meaning. This is the first appearance of the BARN in an international magazine.
